Allahabad University

(MUIR central college)

The University of Allahabad, informally known also as Allahabad University is a public central university located in civil lines, allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established on September 23, 1887; it is the fourth oldest University in India.

The foundation stone of the MUIR central college was laid by Governor-General of India, Lord Northbrook on 9 December 1873. The college was named after sir william muir, Lt. Governor of united prvince, who was instrumental in its foundation. The building was designed by William Emerson.

Initially it functioned under the university of calcutta and later, on 23 September 1887, the University of Allahabad was established, making it the fourth modern university established in India. The University also has a 54m long minar on the extension part of maths department which is also one of the tallest structure in the whole of allahabad city and 3 domes which are on the halls of the university s home to a lot of families that have been living there for the past 5 generations. What is applaud able that the structure still has a lot of that ornamentation existing and maintained.
